- Why has Texas fared better than many states in confronting the coronavirus?
- Texas COVID-19 situation report for 5/11/2020 (pdf) – 1088 deaths in Q1 plus Q2’s April and part of May. Official Texas 2018/19 flu season deaths were 9249 by end of July last year, over 10,000 for the year. Should our rights have been scuttled for that, less than 10% of a “regular” year’s flu death rate? Note that the fatality rate in Texas is 2.7 percent. That figure is based on testing only the most heavily symptomatic persons so the actual figure may be as low as a non-peak flu year or even lower given other studies showing the infection rate to a factor, or more, larger.
- Texas coronavirus death toll reaches 1,000 as Panhandle hot spots surge –
- – sad but 1004 is only a 10th of regular deaths from P&I (flu.) Hospitalizations of only 1,734 refutes any justification for restrictions which were all said to be to “flatten the [Bell] curve” so as to avoid overtaxing hospitals.
