Listener: Lubbock County looking a gift horse in the mouth?

Pratt,

I live way out in the Northeast corner of Lubbock County on what used to be a caliche road. After years of blading our road without resurfacing, the caliche is gone and we now find ourselves traversing “basically” what has become a turn road.

I’m in the business of producing and providing caliche to local contractors as well as to the county and for years have begged the county to resurface my road. A couple of months ago I filled out the paper work to donate $10,000 dollars worth of caliche to the county for my road.

image: gift horseThis morning I called to see why I haven’t heard from them and Nick Olinick told me that the county was cold on the idea and I told him I didn’t know what else to do but go to the media. Nick asked me if I could sweeten the deal.

The county continues to go up on my property value but have been negligent on services, so here is my word of the day: Perplexing. The powers to be, when it comes to decision making for Lubbock County, have turned down a ten thousand dollar material donation

I have offered. When asked if I could sweeten the deal, the whole deal became very perplexing to me.

Pratt, I enjoy the hell out of your show and keep up the good work.

Thanks,
Casey

Mr. Pratt

I would like to thank you for airing my letter and word of the day yesterday about the problems I’m having with Lubbock County and the donation I tried to make. Just to update you, I was able to talk with Bubba [Pct. 3 commissioner] this morning and he explained that they turned down the donation because they are really looking for people to donate 100%. I told him I was looking for him to donate his salary. Once again, thank you and I hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving.

  1. Ron Bennett says

If the amount of caliche offered is sufficient for the road in question, then they have no excuse for declining. Even if it is not, they need to explain.

They have the crews and will actually SAVE labor by not having to work the road as often. They need to PUBLICLY explain their position.
