The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: The Texas House, under Dade Phelan, quit early, again, ignoring the people’s business so they can go home. Drinker of the House Phelan wished members, not more time with family, but plenty of time to play golf.
This is flippant and shows zero respect for Texans and is little different, in total, from Democrats who flee the state to break quorum. If you don’t want to debate and cast tough votes on bills, don’t run for legislative office!
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick Says Dade Phelan is ‘Impossible to Work With’. He said that, while he had disagreements with past speakers Joe Straus and Dennis Bonnen, he could have conversations with them. Phelan, meanwhile, has not communicated with him.
“This guy’s just flat out impossible to work with,” he Patrick added, saying that if Phelan is speaker of the House next session, school choice and other issues, such as a taxpayer-funded lobbying ban, will die again.
80 Days Later: Texas House Speaker Phelan has yet to disclose impeachment costs.
