Listener Email: Former council member addresses claims related to Lee Ann Dumbauld

Good Morning!

I have been following closely, the races for County Commissioner.  I have no doubt you know that I am a former City Councilwoman and the Sister in Law of LeeAnn Dumbauld.  I listened to your interview with her yesterday evening and would first like to thank you for asking the questions you did.  It is important for these things to come out as most people are uninformed of how taxes are raised and debt goes up much less HOW (and why) a city manager gets fired.

The reason for my email is that during the time leading up to the actual firing of Lee Ann, [former councilman] Victor Hernandez literally crippled the financial operations of the city.  He filed one open records request after another, including a request for all of the auditor’s work papers.  He refused to have them emailed to him.  He insisted they all be printed.  After hours and hours of research and hundreds of dollars of man hours and paper/printing, it was taken to him, literally on a cart.  Nothing was ever done with it.

Isidro Gutierrez is the one that lead that PAC to recall Victor Hernandez.  That recall election was held in November 2013.  Lee Ann was fired in July 2013.  She had nothing to do with it.

There were threats to Lee Ann by Victor.  I don’t recall the exact threats but I do recall them always being underhanded and I remember one of them being within a month of her husband passing away.

Kovar says that Lee Ann cost the taxpayers thousands of dollars on a recall election. Isidro Gutierrez is the one that lead that PAC to recall Victor Hernandez.  That recall election was held in November 2013.  Lee Ann was fired in July 2013.  She had nothing to do with it.  I understand this is an election and anything goes.  But, I just think the facts speak for themselves.

I tell you all of this because I keep hearing interviews with Kovar and Garza and they continue to “blame” Lee Ann for all the turmoil and reason for her firing.  This is simply not the case.  I lived it.  As much as I loved being a councilwoman, those were terrible times on the council.  I appreciate you getting facts out.  Even though you and I may not have seen eye to eye on everything, I have always respected your opinions and how you do your homework.

Thank you for taking your time to read this lengthy email.

Sincerely,

Karen Gibson
