He’s the long serving state senator for whom the Lieutenant Governor reconstituted the Senate Agriculture Committee as independent just so ol’ Kel could remain a chairman this session. Ol’ Kel’s reaction was to initiate a public whining campaign claiming his constituents were “dismayed and disrespected” in his being made head of the ag. committee. Rightly, the Lieutenant Governor pulled the gavel from the whiner’s hands and handed it to another senator proud to chair the committee on agriculture.
Poor ol’ Kel Seliger, for all his self-belief and overt arrogance, demonstrated once again that he is not nearly as smart as he thinks himself to be and has made himself the first self-promoted sad sack soap opera story of the session. In so doing, Seliger traded away his power to make deals to benefit Amarillo and the rest of his district.
If he’d not been a self-centered petulant git early in the session he’d be able to trade his vote to bring property tax reform forward for robust Senate budget funding of the Tech Veterinary Medicine School to be sited in Amarillo and be a hero back home. But instead Seliger flushed the tools of a savvy legislator with his public trantrum over his committee assignment; he made himself ineffective and a caucus-of-one.
If you live in Seliger’s district, or even if you don’t, you need to be calling his office over and again to insist the he not block Senate Bill 2, property tax reform, from coming forward for a vote.
You need to be heard by Senator Kel Seliger

SD31’s Kel Seliger
Seliger is now the person in Austin most standing in the way of authentic property tax reform by being the one GOP vote to stand with the Democrat caucus to keep property tax reform, SB 2, from coming up for a vote in the Senate.
