TX19: Conservative leader Mikel Ward backs Robertson, others in runoff

Fellow Conservatives,

Like many of you, I have been somewhat conflicted regarding the 19th Congressional District runoff candidates.  Mayor Glen Robertson and I have been strong allies on many City issues and had fierce battles when he seemed to abandon his pledges in 2012 to substantially lessen wasteful crony spending and to lower our huge debt and hidden utility taxes.  Looking back at the last 4 years, he was dealing with a mostly liberal City Council and entrenched bureaucrats who opposed any desperately needed reforms, which saw him on the losing side of many split Council votes.  As Mayor, he had to defend decisions he had not supported and was blamed for the resulting policies.  Glen and I both have a passion to make Lubbock a better place to live and do business.

…I am endorsing him because his long successful small business background and his service on local boards has given him a depth of understanding of issues facing this area and lessening federal overreach.

While he is not perfect (but who is?),  I am endorsing him because his long successful small business background and his service on local boards has given him a depth of understanding of issues facing this area and lessening federal overreach.  I also think he will stand up to the Washington cartel when needed to represent the average grassroots taxpayers and not become part of it.  He has met with reputable conservative think tanks like Heritage Foundation and with Congressman Jim Jordan who heads the Freedom Caucus.

In other statewide races, I encourage you to consider Wayne Christian for Railroad Commissioner, Ray Wheeless for place 2 on the Court of Criminal Appeals and Brent Webster for place five on the same court.  As usual, I urge you to analyze all information about candidates very carefully before voting…  Whatever you decide, go vote early by Friday or next Tuesday, May 24th.

Thanks,
Mikel Ward

P.S. We still have City Council runoff elections on June 25th in Districts 1 and 2.  You may not live in these areas, but your help (either financial or volunteering) is desperately needed for conservative Republicans Frank Gutierrez and Jared Hall, both running against well funded liberal Democrat activists for the last two Council seats.   Having responsive representatives in these districts for the first time ever can make a huge difference, as our local government impacts your family much more than at any other level.  Contact me to get involved any way you can.  No amount of time or money is too small to benefit these good men.
