In the GOP run-off for Texas 19th Congressional District, the distinction between Jodey Arrington and Glen Robertson is great and yet I get the idea that many voters don’t see it because most media aren’t doing the job of telling the life stories of the candidates.
On one-hand, you have Glen Roberston, a man who started with relatively nothing but hard work and had made his living in the private-sector his entire life. Robertson’s businesses aren’t even the type of businesses that thrive by getting government contracts for work as so many are these days. No matter whether rural farm communities or life in a city, Robertson has taken time to serve on small school boards and now as mayor of Lubbock but, always, he’s made his money by serving others in the private sector. Robertson’s view of government and needed reform in Washington reflects that experience.
Then you have Jodey Arrington who straight out of college went to work as a political staffer and remained on political and government bureaucracy payrolls until the day he decided to run for political office. Arrington’s life is one of being an Washington-insider and he brags of how well he works in the very environment most Americans want changed. Arrington’s campaign for Congress has been propelled largely by his lobbyist friends and others who desire access to the spoils of government.
Arrington talks up faith and family strongly but a look at his personal background shatters any illusion that he’s interested in anything but building his own resume and being part of the DC-elite crowd.
Arrington’s endorsements are mainly from those who are government and political actors and those who want expensive government programs for their endeavors. Robertson has endorsements from reform-minded conservatives like Dr. Donald May. There is a big difference.
Those who would criticize Mr. Robertson for “going negative” should re-direct their negativity to the lamestream media, whose proper job is to search out and reveal patterns of character and behavior like Robert has done here. But of course the standard media will do nothing to harm another of the Establishment/Insider types like Mr. Arrington obviously is.
District 19 should not be represented by the winner of a beauty or personality contest, but by someone who staunchly promises to go to Washington and fix what has been broken for so long.
This is an easy choice, made easier by Dr. Donald May and Robert Pratt. Thanks to these gentlemen!
I’m with Pratt, Carnohan, May, and Robertson!
The man with the proven belief in the Constitution should win, but the one with the backing of the most $$$ usually does!
