I give TX19 candidate Michael Bob Starr credit for taking tough questions on the homosexual movement support scandal surrounding him but, as one political expert said to me after my interview of Starr Tuesday, “Why does he keep talking? It just gets worse.”
Starr’s claiming that a media report should be ignored when material presented in such a report is accurate, all because of who or what might have been behind the process of the reporter getting the story, is balderdash. Attacking the messenger is avoiding dealing with the substance of the story and it isn’t leadership, it is, quoting the Sandstorm Scholar, “whining” and it is unbecoming.
Starr’s take would be acceptable and appropriate if untruths were released about him, fabricated and disseminated, but such is not the case in this situation. Starr proudly stands by his participation in the homosexual “pride” events. He is deflecting – trying to take attention from a troubling report about him and turn it into others being victimized by such.
I can tell you how Starr should have responded (and I may on the show this week) and it would have aided him in the race. But he chose another route, he went full-out in defense of his actively supporting the homosexual “pride” events at his former base.
Now to those who think I’m attacking Starr to boost another candidate at this point: I’ve not made an endorsement in the race. Both Robertson and Starr were listed as my top choices when released. Understand that there are few harder questions to ask Robertson or other candidates at this point because there has been no scandal-like issue reported as there was with Starr. You can’t press candidates on something that is problematic if such issues have not emerged.
I think Pratt was tough, fair, and unswerving in asking direct questions during the interview! I especially appreciated him bringing up Col. Starr’ s use of Dyess Air Force Base when it is favorable to the campaign, while at the same time insisting that Dyess was off limits in the race! Of course, Col. Starr had no good response to that. How could he? Hats off to Col. Starr for standing tall and not ducking the interview or the questions that he knew we’re going to be tough! Good job Pratt!
