TX19: Starr’s actions don’t match what he’s told voters

The TX19 race has sure jogged into unexpected territory with Breitbart News publishing very clear photographs of former Air Force Colonel Michael Bob Starr not presiding over as base commander but, deeply participating in a homosexual “pride” event.

Strangely, Starr first reacted to the disclosure in the press by attacking a third-tier candidate in the race for, in his words, “false and malicious attacks” in a “smear campaign.” The problem is that the story by Breitbart is fully documented with photographs. Starr’s dodge in a statement Sunday? He, as the Lubbock AJ put it, said “he was new to politics and not used to attacks from fellow Americans.”

That sure doesn’t sound like the tough warrior talk that matches his advertisements. Starr then went to Abilene’s KTAB and objected to the a few of the words used in the Breitbart story and claimed “All I had to do was make sure that homosexual airmen were not discriminated against.”

No matter his reasons, Starr’s all-out participation in an event celebrating and encouraging homosexuality is an endorsement of such, documented in photographs. And, it doesn’t square with what he’s told voters about his personal beliefs.

In the follow-up to the story which includes a link to Starr’s explanation, Brietbart included this: “The candidate, however, did not explain or address the discrepancy between “making everyone feel welcomed” and his having worn gay pride clothing sprinkled in rainbow paint coupled with his active participation and promotion in and of gay “fun runs.””

No matter how ready you are to buy the charges of a smear from Starr or the odd justification that equates non-discrimination enforcement with active support and participation, one thing is clear: No matter his reasons, Starr’s all-out participation in an event celebrating and encouraging homosexuality is an endorsement of such, documented in photographs. And, it doesn’t square with what he’s told voters about his personal beliefs.
