Academics are reaping what they’ve sown

I was reading a story in the London-based The Telegraph headlined “How political correctness rules in America’s student ‘safe spaces’” when I ran across this statement: “[College ]Lecturers unhappy with this state of affairs blame the US department of education for allowing student angst to morph into a tyranny that has many professors running scared.”

What, blame the Federal government and the Department of Education, which by the way conservatives have long opposed, for baby students at University who claim that “hearing words and ideas that oppose their own” is emotional “trauma”? Balderdash.

One possible explanation is that American society is producing mollycoddled children…

The liberals who populate academia are merely reaping the harvest of the specific variety of seeds they worked hard to plant. Victimhood, political correctness, false self-esteem, anti-personal and group competitiveness, and many more I could list come right out of the Left in what is poorly named “higher” education.

The attempt to shift blame to the Department of Education is interesting in that it is also a creation of the Left and the Left’s mouthpiece progressives largely employed in academia.

The paragraph in The Telegraph’s story that most accurately describes what is happening is this: “One possible explanation is that American society is producing mollycoddled children who, when they arrive at university, have not yet developed a sense of defiant independence.”

A good summation with the exception of the last phrase about defiant independence. Such has long been a fantasy of the Left; that its protest-culture is independence when in reality the Left is about conformity to its dogma which is in this case political correctness.

It has come back to bite its academic parents in the intellectual neck.
