Early voting is underway in the race for Texas Senate District 28 and this special election has turned out differently than many of us had expected.

Over the past many years, there has been much speculation about how broad of a field of candidates there would be whenever Robert Duncan vacated the SD28 seat. And in every speculation I can remember, it was guessed that there would be two or more serving state reps. as well as other strong elected officials in the contest.

I would never have expected the race to have shaped up into a field with only one strong conservative, with a record to prove such. And yet, that is what has happened. No wonder even the Lubbock newspaper editors had to agree with me that Charles Perry is right choice.

The only other serious campaign being run is that of Jodey Arrington who loves to say in commercials that he’s a conservative. Some of the commercials have been laughable in that he claims that he is the only candidate who will do something that Charles Perry already has a public record of doing such as matters related to illegal immigration.

I find it odd that in conservative, small-business northwest Texas that one of only two well funded candidates in a special election for the state senate is a lifelong government bureaucrat – Arrington has been on a government payroll his entire adult life. Seriously, what does he really know about the challenges the rest of us face?

Charles Perry is a CPA for other small businesses, he not only understands what we face, he lives it. And, Perry has two sessions in the House in which he has proven his authentic commitment to conservatism – beyond campaign ads.
