Wave or not, GOP lost Texas because Republican voters didn’t vote – Pratt on Texas 11/5/2026

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day:

If we go to the second spot on the 2024 General Election ballot, skipping the presidential race, just shy of 6 million people voted for Ted Cruz, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. In this 2026 General Election, even with great turnout and a national “wave” election, Democrats only garnered 4.4 million votes for the top spot on the ticket, Little Jimmy “the creep” Talarico.

We don’t compare presidential and mid-term cycles for vote turnout prediction but we most certainly can compare the raw number of voters and, no matter how you shake it, Republicans lost state government in Texas because about 500,000 voters stayed home, handing the Leftists the state races. (That’s about the difference between how many voted for Cruz in 2024 versus how many voted for Abbott in 2026. If those 500,000 had shown up, Abbott would have won by over 200,000.)

Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.

Texas sales tax collection grew by double-digits in October over the same time in 2025. – but again, voters believed the media, like in 1992, that the economy is terrible. We have very low unemployment, factories opening up, and jobs being added at a high rate in Texas but voters believed it a nightmare.
