With the help of Jefferson County Democrats, the Dem sheriff was a big backer, Drinker of the House Dade Phelan got a narrow win – that’s somehow appropriate for a man committed to empowering Democrats in the Texas House and who won the speaker’s gavel by doing a deal for Dem support.

Rep. Tom Oliverson says the race for speaker begins today.
