Abbott’s ongoing legislative problem | Cheating DEI ban in Texas | Win against “bail reform” – Pratt on Texas 1/8/2024

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: Another press column reporting what I’ve explained to the audience since Greg Abbott’s first legislative session as governor. He’s strong on a lot of ideology, expert at building his personal political brand but, Abbott is a continuing disaster at working with the legislature – disaster because it’s of own party, often allies and political friends, and often with issues for which there already exists widespread general support.

Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.

As I predicted, some Texas public universities are trying to keep the racist, Marxist D.E.I. by simply renaming it and shuffling the proverbial deck chairs. A big piece in The Federalist explains. The piece does not include this recent reversal: UTSA reverses plan to replace Office of Inclusive Excellence.

Wichita Falls’ situation with developing Lake Ringgold mirrors many others including that of Dallas. I fully understand the property rights issue to which many have held however, takings for such purposes are fully constitutional and fully necessary. Too many in Texas are repeating the anti-development mistakes of California – it doesn’t really matter if it is Lefty enviro whack jobs or just those who don’t want something to change as the result is still the same: Cutting off economic and population growth.

Big win against Leftist so-called Bail Reform with the U.S. Supreme Court refusing to take up a case challenging bail in Dallas County.
