“In Texas, we call it self-defense, defense of others, and defense of property those are the three justifications.”
During the early morning hours of Friday, 43-year-old Jason Omar Cruz found himself in a Beaumont hospital after having been shot by a prepared Texas homeowner.
According to Beaumont police, a call reporting a burglary in progress was received just after midnight. While en route to the scene police learned, via dispatch, that the homeowner had shot Cruz after he had made entry into the house.
Cruz was found bleeding on a bathroom floor by police who saved his life with a tourniquet.
Police say the homeowner was acting within his rights and will face no charges. “The suspect is the one who broke the law and committed a crime and as a result, he was shot,” said Beaumont Police Spokesperson Haley Morrow according to KBMT.
Criminal Defense Lawyer Ryan Gertz told KBMT: “In Texas, we call it self-defense, defense of others, and defense of property those are the three justifications.”
All the better for Jefferson County and all the better for Texas.
