Tuesday afternoon Houston grandmother Keshondra Howard Turner, 53, was operating her family’s soul food truck when a 23-year-old man pulled up and asked about the menu at about 1 p.m.

After being shown the menu, Turner told the police the man got out of his pickup with a weapon. She closed the window but the man opened it and reached inside with the gun pointing at Ms. Turner. According to the recounting of the story by Houston Police the man tried to shoot Turner but his gun jammed.

In that fast moment of the gun jamming Ms. Turner was able to use her own firearm and shoot the man several times. He made it about 50 feet from the food truck before collapsing and beginning the eternal dirt nap.

Turner’s son, Derick Howard, told KHOU that his mother would never have wanted to use her gun, but she didn’t have a choice. In the three years that their food truck has been open in the parking lot, the family said they’ve never had a problem. Police said Ms. Turner had a panic attack after the shooting. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

“I hope she’s alright because I know right now she’s going crazy because that’s not even (like) her. …She’s a Godly woman, that’s why the [bad guy’s] gun jammed because God jammed it,” Howard said.
