Review of significant polling in AG race & more | Abbott shies from border “invasion” truth – Pratt on Texas 4/6/2022

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: Polling from the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation is quite interesting and should frighten Democrats. Getting much attention is the dislike of George P. Bush however the polling data shows large pluralities who are fully aware of his poor performance at the Land Office meaning it’s not just the unpopularity of the Bush name as some would lead you to believe.

State Senator Beverly Powell simply quits, handing SD10 to Republican Phil King. She lost her lawsuit over the redrawn lines of the district and says she’ll withdraw from the ballot!

Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.

Showing I was right on 30 March, press reports out today show there is a push to get Gov. Greg Abbott to move to a position of real action on the border with Mexico. But as you’d expect, Abbott won’t use the term “invasion” in a constitutional context. Well guv, if it’s not an invasion then what is it?

And don’t be fooled by Abbott’s stunt announcement today, busing people to D.C. you don’t have the authority to detain isn’t a workable thing an none of this moves us toward real state enforcement of the border. He’s already put up razor wire before and our Guard troops and DPS simply helped people through it!

Sales tax receipts for Texas taxing districts show huge growth which means cities shouldn’t be raising property taxes next year.

Another few moments pointing out that rising appraisals do not, in general, raise your property taxes. Taxes only go up when local government officials set a new tax rate for the next year that brings in more money from existing property (property taxed in the last year) than in the previous budget year.

And, other news of Texas.
