Texas Supreme Court stays the TRO issued by an Austin district judge that prevented arrest of AWOL Democrats but it wasn’t any type of final decision. Justices also ruled against a Democrat suit to block, or overturn, Governor Abbott’s veto of all legislative funding – it’s a disturbingly superficial decision from the reporting I have read but that may simply be because of the claims and structure of the Dem case.
Feckless Phelan still not taking substantive action to force a House quorum and why should he? He owes his position to a huge block of the Democratic Caucus and this ordeal shows why I, and many others, were so right in criticizing Republicans who made the deal with the political devils to secure the speaker chair for their guy instead of honestly fighting it out in GOP caucus as many had promised to do. Note, just before showtime today, the House votee 80 to 12 to send law enforcement to retrieve absent Democrats. We’ll see what this looks like in practice. The vote of the House was not necessary as the Speaker has had the right to do this the entire time.
