What to say about 2020? (Hint: “spawn of Satan”)

Good riddance comes to mind but in reality the number on the calendar has nothing to do with things, it neither starts nor ends that which we live through.

A Listener Club member dealing with all the turmoil as well as a family health emergency, who writes to assist with dealing with stress, had these things to say about the outgoing year:

“You may have knocked us down, but we are not out.  We will recover from all that you have done and we will be better off for it.

“I would wish you well which is the polite thing to do.  However, I would be lying and Momma always told me to tell the truth.

“I actually hope you rot in the pit of hell that you came from and are relegated to a mere footnote in history.

“Lastly, you spawn of Satan, I give you a double middle finger salute and spit in your eye!”

Well 2020 is only a calendar date not an actual actor in what has transpired but, having said that, I think many of our listeners would agree with what this person had to say, including the litany of terrible things over the year I did not share and some even harsher language.

I agree that while we are down, we are not out. However, I am not sure we will be better off for the adversity as we will likely have lost another chunk of our hard won freedom.

It is the fighting spirit I like in these comments and remember my point on political pessimism:

Defeatist cynicism is an arrogance that we too know an outcome – we do not. Our Creator expects us to fight for good until He ends the game, not us.

That includes in this coming year.
