Irony in Austin residents’ outrage over mayor’s COVID hypocrisy

“In early November, as health officials warned of a [sic] impending COVID-19 spike, Austin Mayor Steve Adler hosted an outdoor wedding and reception with 20 guests for his daughter at a trendy hotel near downtown.

“The next morning, Adler and seven other wedding attendees boarded a private jet bound for Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where they vacationed for a week at a family timeshare.

“One night into the trip, Adler addressed Austin residents in a Facebook video: “We need to stay home if you can. This is not the time to relax. We are going to be looking really closely. … We may have to close things down if we are not careful.”

We rightfully note the do-as-I-say-not-as-I -do hypocrisy of this and liberals in Austin, which is still suffering under the most tyrannical restrictions justified by fear of WuFlu, are properly outraged as they are so well practiced at being. But is it really something so outrageous?

Liberals have long played the compassion game with other people’s money and space while themselves living in high income areas protected from many of the results of their pro-bums on the streets or soft on crime policies, to name but two examples.

Liberal policies are almost always do-as-I-say-not-as-I -do – think about Lefty environmentalists who are often flying around on private jets.

That Austinites would be bothered by their mayor’s hypocrisy on hiding under the bed due to COVID, is itself a bit of irony.
