Is racism a mental health crisis, or is wallowing in victimhood the bigger problem?

Pratt on Texas - copyright Pratt on Texas all rights reserved“The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health at the University of Texas has declared racism a mental health crisis,” reported the Austin American-Statesman. The “Hogg Foundation has provided education on mental health throughout Texas and funded programs that focus on it.”

The Statesman’s story points out how this group has focused on “mass shootings and hurricanes” and its latest declaration says: “Racism is a mental health issue because racism causes trauma.”

This gives us a strong hint at how operations in the Hogg Foundation are rooted in Leftist utopianism because if something that causes trauma to people is a “mental health” issue needing study and action, then everything is a “mental health issue” as anything and everything can be a cause of trauma given the right circumstances.

…simply an effort to create another form of victimhood in which scapegoating can luxuriate.

The Hogg Foundation, and others, do harm to the authentic science of mental illness by adding to problems with diagnosis by confusing the public as to what is a sign of actual mental illness.

This UT group follows the Leftist political idea that ideas and behaviors with which it disagrees are mental illness. Where Leftists run the political show people are actually deprived of their jobs and other positions and even committed to facilities for so-called treatment for having the mental illness of holding views, on just about anything, counter to the approved political dogma.

With those outside of its practitioners, defining racism as a problem is nothing new or objectionable but, pretending its existence as a cause of mental illness due to emotional trauma is simply an effort to create another form of victimhood in which scapegoating can luxuriate.
