The featured cigar is the FARCE Toro (6″ x 54) by Room 101.
The FARCE from Room 101 is a fairly new entrant to the market, re-introduced with the return of Matt Booth to the cadre of blenders in 2019. The blend is available in Gordo, Robusto, and Lonsdale vitolas as well as the Toro, reviewed here. The Lonsdale vitola was rated among Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2019.
The cigar is an appealing 5-country blend with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Indonesian binder, and Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Pennsylvania long fillers.
After a punch cut (recommended), smoke volume is copious with natural tobacco and pepper spice, medium-bodied, and varying from mild to medium-full strength in the first third of the cigar. Notes of earth and leather appear early, as the pepper spice gradually retreats. Earth, leather, light-to-medium spice, and notes of cashew predominate in the balance of the cigar. Other reviewers have commented on cinnamon notes, but I did not identify these.
The above profile persists into a smooth, creamy finish which gradually fades, with mild pleasant bitterness at the finish.
Construction is good, with some degree of uneven burn, which will respond to positioning and early touchup. Overall, this is a medium-bodied flavorful cigar with a long, smooth finish.
I rate the Toro vitola as superior, especially suited for after dinner and evening enjoyment. It will pair well with a light bourbon (e.g., Blanton’s), or with a heavier sweet red wine such as burgundy or merlot.
Rating: 92
Availability: The FARCE is not currently available at Good Karma or Smokers Haven in Lubbock.
