Texas Voters Stopped Democrat Congressional Dreams in Texas

Pratt on Texas - copyright Pratt on Texas all rights reservedBy ten o’clock on Tuesday night I knew there would be some great headlines for Texas Republicans in the press on Wednesday. None was better than this from the Austin American-Statesman: Texas Republicans on track to win all congressional seats targeted by Democrats. The Statesman headline “Trump defeats Biden in Texas, dealing Democrats a demoralizing setback,” wasn’t too bad either but let’s take a look at those Congressional races national Democrats poured tens of millions into.

Pro-abortion liberal Wendy Davis moved to the Austin-area to challenge conservative Chip Roy in his first, and thus most vulnerable reelection bid. Roy, a former Ted Cruz chief of staff, was behind in the money race and polling throughout the race. After the first early voting numbers were release Roy looked as if he might indeed lose the seat for Republicans but then as more votes were counted in the 21st Congressional District, Roy pulled farther and farther ahead of old pink-shoes to a commanding lead of 52 to 45 percent, a solid seven point margin.

Roy’s was a seat that even very positive GOP insiders told me months ago was the most likely seat for conservatives to lose from the Congressional delegation. Voters stopped that from happening.

Democrats did hold two seats they captured in 2018. Texas 7 down Houston way and Texas 32 in the Metroplex remained in the Dem column but Dems failed to win seats in other areas such as Texas 22 in Fort Bend County and Texas 24 in the Irving-area. Troy Nehls pulled off a convincing win in 22 and former Irving mayor Beth Van Duyne won a squeaker by about 4,500 votes.

And in Texas 23, that giant district from the edge of El Paso to San Antonio, Tony Gonzalez beat Gina Ortiz Jones to keep the open seat in GOP hands.

It was a good night for our GOP Texas Congressional delegation.

    Hello Mr. Pratt

I heard on Mr. Limbaugh’s radio show yesterday, that 4 Republican Judges lost to their Dem challengers. So how bad is it? I admit ignorance here as I am new to the state.

In areas where there has been a growth-led shift to Democrats they won some local offices as you’d expect. They did not win the more important races in Fort Bend Co. Overall, as I covered on the show Wednesday, the Democrat effort in Texas was a complete failure and now there are stories all over the media crying about it and trying to understand why.
