“In Senate race, MJ Hegar calls for end to open carry,” was the headline of a Hearst story by Benjamin Wermund in early September.
“Former Air Force pilot MJ Hegar, a Democrat challenging Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, is calling for an end to open carry. The issue has never attracted the same sort of urgency from gun safety advocates as expanding background checks or banning assault-style weapons. But advocates say that is changing as protests rage on. They point to the Austin [riot] case and other high-profile shootings…” [Emphasis added.]

The story points out that the issue of being able to openly carry your long gun “has never attracted the same sort of urgency” from the anti-Second Amendment crowd so why now, why in the MJ Hegar campaign for Senate?
It seems MJ Hegar wants to disarm Texans so they cannot fight back against the rioters and other thugs we see in the streets around the country intimidating the law abiding and worse.
Hegar and Texas Democrats well- know their efforts in Texas have been largely blunted by not just a more pro-police position of government but because Texans are generally well armed and have the law on their side in protecting themselves, their property, and the lives of others.
MJ Hegar has tried to position herself as not all anti-Second Amendment but is calling for laws to make it illegal to carry your rifle or shotgun which seriously complicates everything from going hunting to simple travel. She’s a Leftist liar like the rest of them and like Leftists worldwide is deeply resentful that an armed populace stands in the way of Leftist street violence used to destabilize our nation.
I was looking for a reason to vote to re-elect Senator Cornyn. This is reason enough.
