According to the Lubbock Police Department, homeowner Jimmy James, 63, shot someone who kicked in his front door but could not see who it was.

The police report said that James feared for his life due to a medical disability. He told police that “if he did not grab his gun there is no telling what the [intruder] could of done.”

James’ home was near 35th Street and Gary Avenue.

Later police responded to a call near 25th and Joliet Avenue at which they found Madison Vanarsdale, 21, banging on a door of a random house and screaming. Place say she was uncooperative and intoxicated.

Police investigators determined that Vanarsdale was involved in the attempted home invasion that was repelled by homeowner Jimmy James and had fled that location with two other suspects. One of the suspects was hit by the homeowner’s gunfire and was taken to University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Madison Vanarsdale was charged with burglary, public intoxication and resisting arrest.
