The Houston Chronicle reports: A lone clerk working the graveyard shift at a northeast Houston gas station … was behind the counter and watched as two men pried open the dead-bolted front doors to the store and walked toward the counter around 2 a.m. A third suspect was spotted standing outside the business with the two men, and investigators said a fourth was waiting in a nearby car.
As the two approached the counter, they started making hand signals toward the clerk, according to Houston police detective Thomas Simmons. That’s when the clerk pulled a gun and fired off four rounds, striking at least one of the men.
That man was pronounced dead on scene, while the three others escaped.
Moments after the gunfire, police found a man with a gunshot wound knocking on doors in a nearby neighborhood.
