Is “climate change” behind this particularly horrible wildfire season in Australia? The Associated Press and others have suggested such.
Under the subheading “What is causing the fires?” the AP reported: “Australia experiences a fire season every year during the summer. Lighting strikes and other natural causes are usually to blame for starting the fires. But this fire season is accompanied by one of Australia’s worst droughts in recent years, and a December heatwave broke the nation’s highest average temperature record.”
7 News in Sydney: “Police are now working on the premise arson is to blame for much of the devastation caused this bushfire season.”
I have followed the Antipodean wildfires going back to the early 1980’s when I frequently listened to Radio Australia on shortwave radio. The entire island continent of Australia is mostly extreme desert with only coastal areas enjoying forestation and the rainfall such requires. Wildfires are simply part of life.
In its big story, the AP made no mention of this key fact being reported by 7 News in Sydney: “Police are now working on the premise arson is to blame for much of the devastation caused this bushfire season.”
So while Bernie Sanders blamed those who were “delaying action on climate change” for “the blood-red sky and unbreathable air in Australia because of raging forest fires,” informed folk might want to know that as of the first week of January, 183 people people had been arrested by Australian police for lighting bushfires and 24 charged for the offense. Reports are that well over 40 have been charged by police since.
Some “climate change.”
Twitter reports from Australia implicate a few whites, but way more Muslims in the mix.
I cannot find any confirmation in the press however Australia has a politically correct non-free press as in the UK.
