“Austin-based journalists working in television, radio, and print overwhelmingly favor Democratic candidates for public office, according to a review of campaign finance data from the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Out of hundreds of individual political contributions reviewed by Austin Bureau, made by employees of Austin journalism outfits from 2017-2019, none went to Republican candidates,” reported AustinBureau.org.
No surprise until you realize that many of the media folk have been hired by, or worked for, Austin-insider Republican legislators like former Speaker Joe Straus.
The study looked at numerous Austin-based media organizations and found a lot of donating to Dems and zero, (zero!,) donations to Republicans.
Interestingly, the most blatantly political Left of Capitol-covering media outlets, aside from far-Left Quorum Report, is the Texas Tribune which brags of being non-partisan. It only had one employee, an events director, who made a federal reportable donation from 2017-2019. Clearly the Tribune has a policy about donations and why bother giving money to Dems when you can do much more for them with favorable media coverage?

Not all employees or reporters donate to anyone but surely this demonstrates a culture of Democratic Party activism at the Statesman, KUT, KXAN and other outlets covered in the report.
