Preserving Senate tradition, Senate avoids ‘nuclear option’ on legislation – The state media and Austin insiders treat the vote threshold scheme, in-place only since the 1940’s, as some great tradition. However it was never created to protect a minority party as there was no significant number of GOP senators for the first 40 years of the tradition.
These type of rules are created for one reason: To prevent political incumbents from having to cast a lot of controversial votes they’d rather not have on the record: The opposite of being deliberative and this is as true in Austin as in Washington, DC.
Why the Texas Legislature doesn’t reflect the state’s growing diversity – another alternative universe story from the Left. Have you ever thought that all people are not racist in outlook? They don’t think someone has to be of their race or ethnicity (or religion or any number of things) to well represent them? That whole idea is bigoted and racist.
