Our friend Daniel Sheppard at the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, the political arm of the National Rifle Association, sent an email alert to members in Texas that read:
“Over this past Presidents Day weekend, a “watchdog” group sent out incorrect fake news implying that your NRA-ILA supports “red flag” legislation in Texas. This couldn’t be further from the truth as we are actively opposing HB 131 and SB 157 by Rep. Joe Moody and Sen. Jose Rodriguez, respectively. You can help by telling your representatives to oppose red flag legislation.
Setting the record straight:
NRA-ILA submitted written testimony to the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence during their June 25, 2018 hearing on red flag legislation.
NRA-ILA provided verbal testimony in opposition to red flag legislation, raising the same points, at the Senate Select Committee on Violence in Schools & School Security the following July.
NRA-ILA alerted activists on January 7th, before the legislative session even started, that these bills had been filed and that we would be opposing them.
The rest of the email explained rightly why these red flag laws are a terrible idea. Such are little more than a ratchet click of the Left toward total gun bans.
But why did NRA-ILA have to send this alert? Because once again another group, this one claiming to be pro-taxpayer, lied about NRA’s position or was too stupid and lazy to check.
Be careful what you believe and with NRA it’s always easy to check by visiting nraila.org.
Don’t be fooled, NRA is working hard in Texas
