The Houston Chronicle reports: The Houston Police Department officer, his elderly parents and aunt were woken up around 12:20 a.m. to the sound of banging on the door of their home, near Wentworth and Sauer, Acevedo said. The officer armed himself and went to the door, telling the robber to leave.
The officer identified himself, but the robber busted through a glass window in the door, Acevedo said.
The officer then shot several times, hitting the intruder in the chest, the chief said.
Patrick Jenkins, 36, was taken to the hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive. He has a pending charge of burglary of a habitation, police said.
