On 30 September, Odessa police officers learned that Al McGruder, 38, McGruder and another man tried forcing their way into an apartment by kicking open the front door. The tenant, identified by the OPD as 27-year-old Kendric Graham, then opened fire, and struck McGruder. McGruder was found dead with a bullet wound to the head.
