“On Friday, federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations arrested Ramon “Ramey” De La Cruz Jr., a police officer with Rio Grande City Police, former deputy with Starr County Sheriff’s Office and son of local Justice of the Peace Ramon De La Cruz,” reported Ildefonso Ortiz at Breitbart Texas.
“Federal authorities charged De La Cruz with one count of possession of more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana with intent to distribute. While De La Cruz was directly charged, documents in his case point to him being part of a larger indictment against a criminal organization from Rio Grande City.
“Court documents obtained by Breitbart Texas revealed that De La Cruz is believed to have been part of a drug smuggling and “rip crew” led by Ramiro Beltran and his family–referred to as the Beltran drug trafficking organization,” Ortiz reported.
If we cannot properly police our border this cancer will destroy entire regions of Texas and the costs associated with such will be unbearable.
We’ve seen far too much of this type of corruption along the Rio Grande and in other pockets of Texas. We’ve seen organized networks of corruption within law enforcement spanning local police forces, county sheriff departments and more. And given that infiltration, one can only wonder at how large these criminal drug and human smuggling networks are among the general population.
There will always be criminals but the cartel-led cultural rot in Mexico is a problem of global significance. If we cannot properly police our border this cancer will destroy entire regions of Texas and the costs associated with such will be unbearable. The need for serious action about our porous border should be a motivating factor for Texas voters in November.
