According to Lubbock police, about 7pm on Monday Robert Michael Wilbur, a resident at 2012 Main Street, was approached by a man who attempted to open the resident’s vehicle door which led to a physical and verbal altercation.
Wilbur phoned 9-1-1 during the event; managed to fight off the other man, and; began to walk away to his house during which time he called for his wife to bring to him a handgun.
At some point after obtaining the handgun from his wife, the man who had approached and fought with Wilbur began a second attack this time wielding a knife. The police report alleges that the attacker began swinging the knife at Wilbur.
Wilbur used his handgun for defense, shooting the suspect in the abdomen. Lubbock police say the shot suspect is in stable condition after undergoing surgery at UMC.
