“Authorities say the incident started as two young males walked up to a Valero. One went inside and held the clerk at gunpoint, demanding money, while the other served as the lookout.
“The men did not realize the HPD officer was watching from his vehicle in the parking lot [while working security as an extra job].
“When the officer got out of the vehicle, the lookout started warning the armed man inside. When the officer approached the door, the man inside pointed his gun at the officer.
“The officer discharged his weapon several times and shot the armed man. The lookout ran to the back of the store and tried to hide, authorities reported, but eventually surrendered and was arrested.
