“The robbery suspect struck about 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sand Liquor along the North Sam Houston Parkway near Greenspoint.
“He produced a gun and demanded money at gunpoint from the clerk,” said Ivan Ulloa, a Houston police homicide detective.
“Police said the robber, whose identity was still unknown later Tuesday, vaulted over the counter at the clerk.
“Pawan Kumar, the owner of the liquor store, identified the clerk as his uncle Nandlal Kumar. Kumar said he was in Beaumont when his uncle called him about the incident.
“The owner said the robber forced his way into the store and came at his uncle with the pistol drawn. Pawan Kumar said his uncle told him the gun fell to the ground as they struggled.
“He (the clerk) got the gun and they were fighting, fighting, fighting,” Kumar said.
“He said his uncle managed to gain control of the pistol and used it to defend himself against the robber.”…
