“The incident occurred at about 2:45 a.m. Thursday in the 2700 block of Rigsby Avenue, where the male security guard was sitting in his van behind Triple R Auto Repair.
“The suspect, a man in his 50s, then tried to break into that van. The security guard fired two shots at the suspect with a .38-caliber handgun, police said. The suspect ran across the street and knocked on a door for help.
“Emergency personnel responded to a call about someone in the area for arm pain, which turned out to be the suspect who had been shot twice in the arm and lower back.”
