Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Thomas Gilliland said the [72-year-old] man was in his home on Mooney Road near Hartley on Friday morning, when he went outside and heard something in a storage trailer on his property.
The man grabbed his pistol and looked inside the trailer, only to find a 34-year-old man rummaging through his belongings, stacking tools and other items near the door, Gilliland said.
The 72-year-old told the man to come out, at which point, the would-be burglar grabbed a metal gas can and hurled it at the homeowner’s head, knocking him over.
“As he gets up, he shoots one time at the guy, and hits him one time in the lower stomach,” Gilliland said, explaining that the burglar then fled and the homeowner called 911.
