SD28: 8-Day Before Election Campaign Finance Filings

The pre-election, 8-day out, campaign finance reports for the special election for Texas Senate District 28 were due by midnight Tuesday.

State Representative Charles Perry outraised former Bush and TTU staffer Jodey Arrington by almost $60,000 in the reporting period covering the month of August. More importantly, Perry reports almost $146,000 more cash on-hand than Arrington.

Delwin Jones, who remains hospitalized in Lubbock, reported no contributions or expenditures with $68,750 of cash on-hand remaining from his personal loan to his campaign. It would not surprise if, after his recovery, Jones submits an amended report which would contain more expenditures – though this is speculation.

Democrat Greg Wortham of Sweetwater reported significantly lower numbers than race fund-raising leaders. Eppie Garza showed no report yet on file and Kerry McKennon reported blanks across the board.

Here is a summary of all filings with links to the detailed reports:

  1. Perry has gone from west texas conservative to big austin politician in 4 years. The majority of his contributions come from special interest groups out of Austin. We don’t want big money in Austin telling us how to vote. Let me say Perry has scolded Arrington for taking money from groups he also took from in previous election years.

    • Those “special interest” groups you mention are what the rest if us call conservative advocacy groups. It seems that you are attacking Perry for receiving money from Texas Right to Life, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, and Texans for Lawsuit Reform. These are the good groups in Austin that support conservatives across the state. Arrington has received money from TMA and TAL…liberal groups that fought against the pro life bills in recent sessions, and support obamacare.

Charles Perry’s voting record, he actually has a record upon which we can judge him unlike Arrington, is one of the most stellar conservative records in Austin in the past two sessions – which sure doesn’t support your idea of a sellout to the Austin insiders who generally dislike him and all conservatives. If you think Perry’s record is not impressive then you are clearly not a conservative and it makes sense that you back Arrington.
