In the race for Texas Senate District 28, you have 90-year-old Delwin Jones, who would rather be running for and holding office than anything else on the planet, in the race trying to sound like a red-meat conservative. The man was in the House as a Democrat way-back and then again for a long stint as a Republican until defeated by Charles Perry (twice defeated by Perry I might add).
During Delwin’s terms in the House he was consistently rated by most everyone as among the most liberal Republicans, heck he even opposed the right to concealed carry! He locked the public out of his Capitol office for many years, and was generally considered a joke by the Austin crowd on both sides of the aisle – living in past days of glory for his service in redistricting.
After reading and hearing interviews and reading campaign mailers for a few weeks, it has become clear to me that SD28 candidate Jodey Arrington tailors his convictions to whatever audience he perceives he’s speaking to. I’m not the only one to notice such. Fellow broadcaster and owner of a radio station outside of the Pratt on Texas networks tells me that Arrington “waffles on water rights.”
And it’s not just water rights either. He told one radio audience that he favors a bill, which even Senator Duncan wouldn’t support, which allows local cities to raise the sales tax twelve percent. Yet on his mailer, Arrington writes that he’s for keeping taxes low. If he’s for keeping taxes low, why did Arrington refuse to say whether he would oppose a raise in the gasoline tax you pay, or an increase in your vehicle registration fees, when I interviewed him? Why does he favor making it easier to raise sales taxes by a whopping twelve percent?
Slick talk and slick TV ads – just what one should expect from someone who has spent his entire adult life on a government payroll in elitist bureaucracies.
Had the same exact thoughts prior to listening to yesterday’s show. I like Jodey and he’s a nice guy, but he has been sucking at the public teat since college with no private world experience.
My husband, a pharmacist say that a lot of doctors say they are going to vote for him because they think he will help their field. What are your thoughts?
If expanding the already hated Medicaid to fully implement Obamacare in Texas is thought to “help their field”, they might as well go ahead and support the Democrat Wortham.
