With temperatures in the 20’s early Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014, Steve Newsom, grower of fine wine grapes near Sundown, Texas, on the High Plains of West Texas, burns over 120,000 pounds of hay in his three vineyards to create heat and smoke in order to save young grape buds from freezing. The helicopter in the picture is being used to force heat and smoke back into the vineyard. Results are not known at this time. – provided to Pratt on Texas by Dayvid Cole.
