In the race for U.S. Senate many Texans are rightfully upset with Senator John Cornyn’s refusal to stand with Ted Cruz and fight for the very things Cornyn says he believes in. And to that end I’ve received many emails asking which candidates challenging Cornyn I’d recommend. I’m not endorsing but I am saying that the two candidates I am most impressed with are Ken Cope and Dwayne Stovall. If you intend on voting for anyone other than Cornyn, as I’ve heard a lot, I recommend your vote go to one of these two men.
In the race for the GOP nomination for Texas’ 19th Congressional District, we’ve an incumbent representative, Randy Neugebauer, who refuses to participate in the handful of forums and debates at which his opponents will appear and, who ran a set of heavily scripted town hall-style meetings at which he would not take direct questions from citizens.
What does it say about Mr. Neugebauer that he will not stand on a platform with his opponents and makes citizens submit questions only to be filtered by staff? One could argue that it shows contempt for the very voters he claims to represent. Another way of looking at the no-shows in debates is the consultants’ model of him being the office holder who needs not give opponents credibility by appearing with them. Either is arrogant and essentially un-American in nature.
I was going to sit this one out but Randy Neugebauer’s dodging of opponents has gotten me back in. Either of his challengers would make a much better Congressman, both have deep roots in agriculture unlike Randy, and both are committed philosophical conservatives.
I’m endorsing Dr. Donald May in the race and asking you to not split the vote. Chris Winn ran last time and got my support. May has taken the race more seriously in this cycle and if there is to be any chance of victory over the incumbent, all votes need to go to Dr. May.
What about District 13? Whom would you endorse there?
I’ve no endorsement in TX13 and that includes the incumbent.
Ah, well I plan to vote for Dr. Pam Barlow. Thornberry is too go along to get along for me.
You nailed it once again Brother Pratt !
Hardest decision I’ve had to make on my voting choices.
I did NOT vote for Randy this time around because he did and does EXACTLY as he chooses.
He does not listen to his constituency and has tunnel vision when it pertains to West Texas issues.
I was all ready vote for Donald May based on your endorsement and then heard Neugebauer saying May supported liberals, To me that would trump a debate no show, but if the advertisement is a lie I really don’t want to vote for a liar. Please clear this up
We did clear this up last Friday when the advert launched. Do you believe the ad? I guess you do. Did they cite a source for this claim? No. The best I can figure out is that some trade/professional group he belonged to, likely the Texas Medical Assoc., has a PAC that gave to democrats. Farm Bureau gives to democrats and even endorsed a Democrat against Rick Perry in his race for Lt. Gov. – does that make Farm Bureau members all funders of liberals?
thank you for clearing it up. I missed fridays program but caught it today. just heard ads all weekend with that kind of deception I would have trouble voting for Neugebauer against any of the others. This is why we need you. Thanks
The liberals in the world will tell you a tuna fish sandwich is a T- bone steak and make you eat it . The republic-( we the people ) must wake up and let the government know that we know the difference between fish and steak. So far, I haven’t had either. I’ve just been fed bologna for the past 6 yrs. and I’m fed up with it.
I heard the ad against May too. Made me think twice about my early vote for the Dr. Thanks so much for clearing that up. I feel much better now.
Anyone is better then Neugebauer.
Hello Pratt, we enjoy and depend on your show. I could have sworn I heard you on Thursday’s show, maybe Wednesday that May voted with Pelosi. Would you remember who you said voted with Pelosi? Surely I misunderstood. Your Abilene supporter Chris Carnohan says I had to have misunderstood and your comments above would lead me to think I did but I sure thought you did. Can you send me what you said about May on those shows? Thanks so much.
Nothing of the sort was said. I was likely mentioning that a professional/trade PAC to which Mr. Neugebauer belonged has given money to support Pelosi and other top democrats. Neugebauer has attacked May for the fact that the ophthalmologist PAC to which he belongs gave money to dems around the country. (I remind all that NRA, Farm Bureau and many, many PACs give to dems too.)
Thanks for your research. It made voting a lot easier.
I had been leaning towards supporting May, as I feel Randy Neugebauer has gotten a little too comfortable, until I heard a May ad which started out complaining about how few bills Neugebauer has written (more of a plus than a negative in my mind). The voice-over at the tail of the ad was very inflamatory and tried to suggest that Neugebauer’s was guilty of “taking his frustrations out on a park ranger”. I saw that interchange and I felt Neugebauer’s behavior was reasonable. Yes, he expressed his irritation but he was not abusive by any stretch of the imagination. I WANT passion in my representative.
I do not appreciate May’s dishonest characterization of that interchange and doubt I could vote for him EVER.
P.S. I also appreciated the fact that Neugebauer had the balls to call Obama a liar. It may have been “inappropriate” but it was obviously true.
Neugebauer also, as Pratt has noted, has an essentially perfect conservative voting record in Congress.
Understood but on the bills, May is talking about bills to roll back all that is bad with the Federal Gov’t. Smaller gov’t takes passing bills to make it so.
That may well be true, but I certainly don’t want someone in the office who, like Duncan, brags about the number of bills passed. There is important work to do besides WRITING bills and someone preoccupied with writing bills may stumble elsewhere.
I am by no means perfectly satisfied with Neugebauer, but I am skeptical of the new candidate, who one would expect to be “cleaner” than the entrenched incumbent, when he is already displaying dishonesty before he has lived in Washington’s corrupting atmosphere.
If we only had term limits (I favor “no consecutive terms”) I wouldn’t have this problem, but alas, that will likely never happen.
Disgusted with Cornyn!!!
After researching Pratt’s suggested candidates, Ken Cope and Dwayne Stovall, I am voting for Ken Cope because he has experience coupled with a more comprehensive background.
Robert~
I cannot tell you the number of friends and family, here and in the Big Country, that are voting with your recommendations.
After years of Dem. “rubber-stamp Charlie Stenholm”-and now Neugebauer’s non-farmer support, they are p.o’d.
They took your recommendations, studied the candidates and are relieved to have your voice to make changes.
The constant playing on our ignorance of the incumbents, we need a Congressman that a) won’t lie to us and b) one that will be in his DISTRICT on Election Day.
Thanks Robert,
Kim
