Today, comment on local races in Taylor, Wichita and Lubbock counties.

Taylor County

I’ll start with the race for Taylor County Republican Party chairman. I could not be more pleased that Winston Ohlhausen is running for chairman. He’s demonstrated his dedication to getting things done and deserves the nod of voters to lead the local GOP.

Wichita County

A recent story in the Wichita Falls press mentioned that in the GOP race for county clerk that elections were the big issue. That’s interesting because the same issue is the only reason it’s on my radar.

This past fall the current Wichita County clerk left the official page at the county’s website dedicated to elections blank during the constitutional amendment election – no early voting locations, times or even a mention that an election was happening several days into early voting! This deprives the public critical information needed to vote. Voters should consider seriously whether there is a competency issue that needs repair in the office of Wichita County Clerk.

Lubbock County

In the district in which I live in Lubbock County, there is a GOP race for county commissioner. It’s bothersome that the incumbent, who was first ran when I was GOP chairman, is the best of the three so-called Republicans on the court.

Among his first actions after being elected was to vote himself a pay raise and it’s happened repeatedly. And until this election year, there has been no effort on the court to restrain spending during his tenure representing Precinct 2.

Jon David Bruegel

Some look at challenger  Jon David Bruegel as young and inexperienced. I remind you that the incumbent was young and had zero experience when elected either, but now he does – experience in spending your money freely and voting himself pay raises. I ask you to give conservative Jon David Bruegel a shot as serving as a Lubbock county commissioner.
