Last week, 911 calls were received by Hidalgo County law enforcement from a family near Sullivan City experiencing gunmen attacking them at their home.

When Hidalgo County deputy sheriffs arrived on the scene, two Sullivan City police officers were already present performing CPR on the homeowner who is the father of the family.

“Deputies said five suspects that arrived at the home got out, wearing ski masks and demanded money from the homeowner. That’s when the homeowner engaged in a shootout, was hit and taken to the hospital. The homeowner told deputies he believed he hit one of the suspects,” according to KGBT.

Breitbart Texas reported that when one of the home invaders “became distracted, her father wrestled a firearm loose and exchanged rounds.”

Police told local media that two suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored passenger car and three others took off on food, eastbound from the location.

“A Border Patrol helicopter was called to the scene while Sullivan City police and deputies searched the area. Authorities said the search was called off for the suspects and area hospitals were alerted,” according to the KGBT report.

It was reported later that the homeowner was released from the hospital.

“Home invasions are already a security concern in south Texas. The region sees a constant flow of drugs and human smuggling. Invaders typically appear in teams at rural homes or stash houses looking for cash, drugs, or migrants for extortion schemes. Often, home invasions go unreported until gunfire is exchanged or the wrong address is targeted,” Breitbart Texas reminded.
