Texas-of-the-North, Alberta’s flirtation with the Left a lesson for Texas

Pratt on Texas“One Houston-area real estate company says it has helped move 40 Canadian companies in the last year and a half, mostly in the oilfield services sector. Arrowstar Realty has already sent 15,000 brochures boasting of tax holidays and a booming local economy to businesses across Western Canada and is planning 50,000 more mailers,” reported Bloomberg’s Canadian arm.

The story reported that the Lubbock EDC “has been holding one-on-one meetings with Canadian companies it thinks would be a good fit. It has been offering free land and other perks to some interested firms on a case-by-case basis.”

“They put up billboards here. They’ve got advertisements. We’ll be doing the same thing,” said Alberta’s premier Jason Kenney in announcing his government’s vow to counter efforts from Texas to lure Canadian companies to the Lone Star State.

The bleed of businesses happened fast in Alberta and the same can happen here if apathetic Texas voters do not keep business-friendly Republicans in control.

Alberta is the Texas of the North with oil and gas and cattle and farming with the pleasant addition of some of the most beautiful mountains on the continent.

Calgary and capitol Edmonton are great cities with Calgary having a skyline similar to Houston with similar names of energy firms on the skyscrapers.

Way to go Houston-area for recruiting 40 companies to move south but you should know that this was enabled because a few years back conservative pro-business Alberta voters stayed home and allowed the Leftists to take provincial power for the first time in memory. What ensued from that? Companies began moving to Texas and other more friendly environments.

The conservatives have won back power and are back to being pro-business. The bleed of businesses happened fast in Alberta and the same can happen here if apathetic Texas voters do not keep business-friendly Republicans in control.
