Point Blank: Did Ted Parker Steal From City Hall?

City Budget Numbers just released (Fiscal year ended at end of Sept.) shows city has spent about $2.2 million MORE after insurance change! - advance argument, if the numbers are different why are they not in the budget?  See all the budget here

Look at this estimate sheet from back in 2006 and see how closely today's budget lines up? Where is this claimed bad performance from AAG?

Parker Group representative says most local jobs not leaving, just top HQ jobs. 300 new jobs moving from the Northeast to Dallas instead of to Lubbock - see LEDA story below.

Claim: Mayor Miller ordered LEDA to end talks with Parker Group on bringing 300 jobs to Lubbock from new company just purchased.
John Barr, attorney for the Parker Group, confirmed in a discussion with Pratt on Texas that Ted Parker had been in negotiations with the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance which were summarily terminated by LEDA. Barr says that his recollection is that LEDA chief Gary Lawrence told his law firm that Mayor Miller had directed him to stop all work with the Parker Group. Remember, this action has nothing to do with the City's insurance deal - nothing related to that relates to this other than Mayor Miller himself. Attempts to reach Gary Lawrence for comment have failed as we have been told he is "out of town/state" - apparently they are not sure!

Editorial: Don't rely on LP&L to balance city budget - there is only one problem with this otherwise reasonable position. There is nothing forcing LP&L to build reserves as they can use retained earnings for capital spending endlessly which essentially would be a utility being taxpayer subsidized. Xcel is paying its Franchise fees and property taxes, LP&L must begin paying as well or be sold to private ownership.

Audio of Linda DeLeon on when she got recall petitions - did she get more than basic copies of the originals? What did she mean by depending on the numbers? City, Cotton Kings Differ on Lease Terms

James Clark stories following ours: first, second

Cotton Kings statement as to rent

Current offer is R90K per year with concession revenue, very fair. That's about $2800 per game with just over 30 home games. Also they get a share of all concessions, something they should have always received. I'm for the Kings and keeping them going but there is a limit to taxpayer support. I've been told that the $90K rent still has the city losing about 60K per year - the same amount they'd lose if the team went away and we shut the building down for the time of their season.

2 to 3 times current rent would be back to earlier rates charged
