Robert,
I'm writing in regards to the new pharmacy in the shopping center next to
Coronado High School. I remember hearing a conversation between a former school
board member, that is now running for a state office, and another person. This
happened the day the school board voted to buy the shopping center. The school
board member said, "what a great deal that was, we get all that parking and we
can use it for class rooms."
Yes they got the parking but there are no classrooms over there. They added on to the school when they added on to the rest of the high schools when they put 9th graders in H.S. There is an elementary school across the street that could have been used for classrooms. Access could have been gained by erecting a footbridge.
On top of this pharmacy deal in the shopping center, when that place was bought by LISD it came off the tax rolls. With the money spent purchasing the shopping center, expanding CHS and lost tax revenue, how much is really being saved? One more example of the fleecing of the taxpayer in good ol' Lubbock.
And boy are you right about the local pharmacies.
