Pratt,
I was watching the news the other night and they were pushing the soccer fields because they will bring X amount of dollars to our local economy namely in hotel and restaurant usage. So, why couldn't the hotel tax be used to pay for the fields? Weren't we trying to find something to spend this money on when we decided to build the visitors' center?
I'm not an expert on the law and I'm not sure this would even be legal. Just a thought I had.
Mike
Pratt responds:
Yes, the hotel-motel tax money can be used for such projects if it can be demonstrated (with no threshold of proof) that it will bring in outsiders to the city to stay in facilities. I can't say why they haven't proposed such.
