Listener: Abilene ISD bond not good for Abilene but good for social climbers

Pratt,

Well, here is my own opinion of what this is all about. Let me be brutally honest with the voter on this issue.

These PAC socialites are totally political. This is more about feeding large egos than it is about the kid’s future. No, it’s more about the parent’s future and their social pecking order in the local community. They are the current generation of civic cheerleaders trying to re-live their junior high and high school days through their kids, or those of someone else.

I know these people. I attended 12 years of public education with many of them. I made an effort to be friendly with them, but I did not follow the high school groupies because trying to be part of the popular crowd was not my goal or interest. My focus was on the family ranch, not the high school popularity scene. We are all in our 40’s & 50’s now, some are in their 60’s. Many of them are empt-nesters now, but they are still seeking for ways to fill that void of being somebody in the community.

I want the Abilene voter to know that this is not about lack of school funding or obsolete run down facilities.

Abilene ISD just got through renovating most of the elementary schools which we will be paying for until I am deceased.

Remember, the AISD did not follow through on closing many of the facilities that they said were too costly to repair for further use.

Get ready for a big property tax hike if this passes. Thirteen dollars a month per 100 valuation on average is totally low-balling it. The average home valuation is between 100k and 150k. The average taxpayer will see $200+ increase to their property tax bill.

In addition, they are hoarding real-estate which should be sold to pay down the debt service which is huge. See, “they” the administrators, and the board view this property and debt as no one’s until the their wants and needs arise again. Meaning: “It’s not mine, it’s not yours until we vote to say it is.” It has become a perpetual snow ball, or should I say snow job! The definition of this is progressive socialism!

My final point is that these generation X&Y’s are looking to boost their career and civic footprint through this PAC initiative.

The PACs are special interest by design. The taxpayer should not be subjected to wants of these people. I believe it is more about them than it is about the kids. That’s just their normal slogan! It is time for our state legislature to ban PACs from public funding issues.

Vote HELL NO!
