All 2018 Pratt on Texas GOP Primary Election ballot recommendations

Pratt on TexasHere are my 2018 Republican Primary recommendations and endorsements consolidated into one list:

On the statewide ballot I fully endorse:

  • Ted Cruz for U.S. Senator
  • Greg Abbott for Texas Governor;
  • Dan Patrick for Lieutenant Governor
  • Ken Paxton for Attorney General
  • Glenn Hegar for Comptroller

Though we’ve had substantial differences with each other, for Commissioner of the General Land Office I’ll be voting for Jerry Patterson to return to the job. But what is most important is that you vote for either Patterson or Rick Range in order to force a run-off so that we can end George P. Bush’s tenure in the office he has made a mess of.

For Agriculture Commissioner I recommend we keep Sid Miller in office. His opponent is a well-off Austin lobbyist backed by the Austin-swamp and has zero in his resume related directly to agriculture.

In the race for Railroad Commissioner, I recommend Christi Craddick for re-election.

There are two competitive races for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. In the race for presiding judge I am recommending challenger, Justice on Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals and Texas Tech Law School graduate, David Bridges. It is time scandal-plagued incumbent Sharon Keller is sent packing.

In the race for Judge, Place 8 on the Court of Criminal Appeals I recommend Judge Dib Waldrip who has appeared on Pratt on Texas.

In Wichita County I recommend re-electing District Attorney Maureen Shelton, her challenger hasn’t made a compelling case for a change.

Also in Wichita County, I recommend Jeff McKnight for Judge of the 30th Judicial District.

In the race for Lubbock County Judge I fully endorse Gary Boren who has one of the top records in all of Texas for fighting for taxpayer interests at the local government level. Boren was a statewide leader on property tax and appraisal reform under Governor Rick Perry and as Judge of Lubbock County will be a much needed asset for Governor Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Patrick in getting key tax reform passed over the opposition of most other local government officials. For Lubbock County Commissioner I fully endorse both challengers over the tax-raising, pay-raising (repeatedly on both counts) incumbents. In Precinct 2, I endorse Jason Corley and in Precinct 4, I endorse Chad Seay. Electing both will tip Lubbock County toward being taxpayer friendly.

In the race for Lubbock County Court-at-Law #3 both candidates would serve the court well. I’ll vote for David Nelson because of his decades of activity in the Republican Party.

The race for Lubbock County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 is the most difficult for me as I know both Clemmie Payne and Susan Rowley will do a fine job. After interviewing and learning more about Mark Meurer I’m not so convinced he is a right fit for this job. I recently recommended Susan Rowley for municipal judge, a race lost in a runoff, and believe she would make a conscientious Justice of the Peace. I’ll vote for Susan Rowley but would not hesitate to vote for Clemmie Payne if making a different choice.

An important race for Texas House District 88 runs from the top of the Panhandle to the Plainview and Levelland areas. The incumbent Ken King, is ranked by the Rice University’s Baker Institute report as the third most liberal voting member of the Republican caucus. He needs to be sent home to Canadian and replaced with small businessman and conservative from Perryton, Jason Huddleston.

In the race for Texas Senate District 31 we have a chance to replace the most liberal Republican member of the Texas Senate, Kel Seliger. The reasons he needs to go are summed up in that Rice University ranking and I am endorsing Mike Canon for SD31.

UPDATE: In the race for Senate District 30, I am endorsing state Rep. Pat Fallon for Senate joining the Lieutenant Governor of Texas, Dan Patrick, who leads the Texas Senate and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. I’ve tried to honor Senator Estes’ record of service but his latest advertisement which uses a Holy Sacrament of the Christian church* as a prop to attack his fine conservative opponent Pat Fallon is a disgusting low. [See also: SD30 race endorsement]

I join Rep. Drew Springer and others calling on Estes to apologize.

(* For those who do not know, “confession” is not just a sacrament of the “[Roman] Catholic” church but of most all branches of the Christian church worldwide including, for example, Anglicans – the church of George Washington and most of our founders and framers.)

  7. Annette Paden says

Appreciate the work you do in tracking Texas politics. So good to have someone that knows about everybody in the political world and has conservative values, holding the people ahead of any agenda.

  8. Why did you pick Christi Craddick over Weston Martinez? Martinez claims to be the conservative. I’m about to go vote.

    • Also fishy when the Dallas Morning News recommended Christi.

    • Pratt on Texas says

A little late to bring this up. We’ve never heard a word from Weston Martinez and Christi Craddick is conservative.

      • Thanks I rely on your recommendations because it’s hard to get information on candidates. Glad to hear Weston’s comment appears unfounded.
